To keep the copper pipes from sliding through the 5/8 inch hole in the PVC tee fittings, pinch the pipe gently with Vice Grip pliers or anything that can be set to not close beyond a certain amount. You don’t want to flatten the copper pipe, just bulge it a little to make it wider than the hole in the PVC.
