Use a meter to check the SWR. My antenna tunes a little high, but the spectrum is broad enough to cover the 2m amateur radio band.
This is an important step as this verifies a lot of the various components work per design. This says there are no shorts or opens. If you swing the frequency up and down and see the classic dip in the middle, you know your are working an antenna and not some other resistance.
